Skills for Orphans

What does a 16 year-old orphan need? The same things most 16 year-olds need: Direction, love, and confidence that they are not alone.

In places like Ukraine, the systems of orphan care are broken. At the age most American kids begin to drive, 16 year-old orphans are forced out of their places of friendship and familiarity. These “graduates” are unprepared to live on their own and provide for themselves.

At Skills for Orphans, we know that all orphans need help. Experience has taught us the painful reality that many orphans will only accept help on terms of their own. The purpose of our ministry is to develop the teachable…one at a time.

When we embrace an orphan, we give them the best thing we have- the love of Christ. This kind of love says, “Because I care about you, I am willing to walk beside you; to invest my life into you.”

Through our partnerships, we will also educate these kids to live productively and wisely. Some will learn a trade; others will go on to university. All will be taught how to manage their lives from a Biblical perspective.

We are raising up a generation of orphans who will one day be able to carry the message of hope to thousands. Love and preparation will empower our graduates to reach out to those who have been abandoned, abused, and mistreated.
